Total Cost of Bell Tower repairs is $52,693.37

The Large and Small Bell Towers at St. John's are currently under-going repair. The large bell tower is getting new window frames to replace the old ones that have been badly weathered. The pictures below shows work being done on the large bell tower.

The Small Bell Tower has some unstable conditions when removing the existing soffit material. The joints holding the soffit material were rotted due to the soffit holding water and leaking in from the tin roof at the steeple base. See pictures below.

Below is a picture of one of the steeple rafters on the east side of the steeple that "exploded" around a knot, possibly due to heat.

The steeple rafters are bearing on wood plates, not framed into the tower masonry, rather simply resting on the same joist that held the soffit. The joists are no longer sound. Look at below picture of one of the joists.

Much of the plates are deteriorated too. See picture below.
